Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage has its roots in the Ayurvedic system of healing and has been used in India for over a thousand years. Here in the West it has become a seated treatment lasting around half an hour. Usually it includes massage through clothes to the upper back, neck, arms, head and face. Various specific techniques can aid deep relaxation and help to reduce stress, restoring physical and psychological balance.

Our Course is accredited and examined by the Massage Training Institute and is run over two separate weekends.

The first part of the course is the Foundation in Indian Head Massage and is open to anyone over the age of 18 with an interest in massage. It is a pre-requisite for the certificate.

Those who wish to gain the MTI certificate in Indian Head Massage will carry on to our Professional Training, which is eligible to anyone who has a qualification in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology at level 3 or higher and who has completed the Foundation weekend.

On our Foundation you will learn

  • the history and background of IHM
  • how to give a full client centred treatment
  • preparation, self care and establishing the therapeutic relationship
  • Ayurvedic practice and chakras
  • Relevant anatomy, physiology and pathology

Those who carry on to do the full Professional Training will also learn

  • client consultations
  • advanced techniques
  • oils and their use with scalp massage

And will undertake case studies, written assignments, and theory and practical assessments. Full tuition time for the course is a minimum of 30 hours, and guided home study a further 40 hours.
