Holistic means “whole” and holistic therapies are concerned with an individual’s whole being – physical, mental and emotional.
Unlike a standard massage that is often a set routine focussed on the physical body, a holistic massage is an individual treatment specifically tailored to you. A holistic approach treats the body as a whole, and as trained MTI practitioners, Ros and Lynn will take into account your emotional and spiritual well-being as well as your physical body.
The benefits of a Holistic massage include:
An individual treatment appropriate to your personal physical and emotional history/journey.
Physical improvements such as relaxing tight muscles, improvements to circulation, nervous functions, and joint mobility; this can ease many short and long term ailments, such as back pain, arthritis and insomnia
Reducing stress. As well as addressing stress factors, holistic massage can facilitate the switch between sympathetic and autonomic nervous systems, hence allowing both body and mind valuable recuperation time
Emotionally, massage can provide caring, non-intrusive touch; this can soothe the busy mind, reduce stress and enhances self-esteem.
For your first appointment your therapist will take a case history. This can take half an hour or so, and it is a chance for you to get to know one another before you start working together. A confidential record will be kept along with any relevant notes for future treatments.
The massage itself will take place in a warm and comfortable room, normally with you lying on a couch. There is a wide range of suitable music, or you can bring your own personal favourites, or the therapy can take place in silence. During the treatment, towels will be used to ensure your comfort and modesty. Oils and/or creams are used on the skin to allow for smooth free-flowing movements. With your agreement various blends of pure essential oils can be used to enhance the treatment.
Afterwards you may feel very relaxed and sleepy. Drinking plenty of water will help to flush away any toxins that have been released during the treatment. To get the best from your massage it is recommended that you avoid alcohol and tobacco for at least 24 hours and to rest. This helps your body’s natural healing processes.
